Just as one may share their personal impressions of a place by sending a visual postcard, Audio Postcards offers an alternative audio method of sharing impressions of places. Audio Postcards was developed from academic research and a residency at Pervasive Media Studio. The project considered critical questions on binaural field recording, sound preservation and an elusive search for soundmarks – an audio equivalent of landmarks.

Landmarks such as Bristol’s Suspension Bridge or Brooklyn Bridge regularly appear on visual postcards. However, do soundmarks exist?

Actively listen out for potential soundmarks, compare impressionistic audio postcard tracks of Bristol and Brooklyn to contemplate their sonic similarities and unique differences and decide for yourself if soundmarks do exist!

Please feel free to get in touch with your audio impressions.
